bramble

Okay, let’s be real. New Year’s Eve used to be a whirlwind of glitter, questionable decisions, and that one song that always gets stuck in your head. Now? It’s more like “Can someone please pass the La Croix and remind me why I thought this sparkly dress was a good idea?” (Check out THIS LIST for great NYE outfit options under $200…or THIS DUPES LIST for cozy stylish SCARVES and COATS if your NYE is shaping up like mine.)

Blame it on age. Blame it on the kids. Blame it on the fact that I’m officially a “mom” in every sense of the word (including the unidentifiable stains on my favorite shirt). But mostly, blame it on the GLP-1s.

Yes, those magical little medications that have melted away the pounds and reignited my love for pants that aren’t yoga leggings. They’ve also, shall we say, dampened my enthusiasm for alcohol.

Best Mocktails on the Market for Your Best 2025

Two Lines to Change the Subject from “Why aren’t you drinking?” (Because Let’s Be Honest, Everyone Loves to Ask)

  • “Oh, I’m just focusing on my wellness journey this year!” (Classic, vague, and generally accepted.)
  • “I’m actually trying to get pregnant with baby number three! 🍹” (Bold, slightly risky, and guaranteed to add a little drama to your evening.)

The GLP-1s and the Vanishing Thirst

It’s not that I don’t like the taste of alcohol anymore. It’s more like… I just don’t crave it. That familiar pull, the siren song of a perfectly chilled glass of rosé on a summer evening? Gone. Replaced by a quiet contentment with a sparkling water and my needlepoint projects.

Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy a nice drink. A perfectly crafted mocktail on a special occasion? Absolutely. But the impulsive “screw it, let’s have a bottle of wine” moments? They’re gone.

And honestly? It’s kind of amazing.

The Upside of a Dry Lifestyle

  • More Energy: No more sluggish mornings after a night of “celebrating.” I’m waking up refreshed and ready to conquer the day (or at least get the kids out the door without losing my mind).
  • Improved Sleep: Say goodbye to those 3 AM bathroom runs and hello to a more restful night’s sleep.
  • Clearer Skin: Less alcohol means less inflammation, which translates to happier skin.
  • More Money: Let’s be honest, those cocktails add up!

Dry-uary (and Beyond?)

This New Year’s Eve, I’m embracing the quiet revolution. No frantic searches for a babysitter, no anxiety about driving home, just good food, good company, and maybe a little too much dancing.

And you know what? I’m actually kind of excited about it.

Quick & Easy Mocktail Recipes to Keep the Party Going

Because just because you’re not drinking alcohol doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a delicious beverage. Here are a few of my favorite no-fuss mocktails:

  • Rosemary Berry Smash:
    • Muddle fresh berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries) with a sprig of rosemary.
    • Top with sparkling water and a squeeze of fresh lime juice.
    • Garnish with a rosemary sprig and a few berries.
  • Blood Orange Paloma:
    • Combine fresh blood orange juice, grapefruit soda, and a splash of lime juice.
    • Garnish with a blood orange slice and a pinch of salt.
    • Hot tip! Keep your blood oranges in the fridge and have garnish that lasts up to two weeks.
  • White Tea-a-Sangria:
    • Steep a few bags of white tea in hot water.
    • Once cooled, add fresh fruit (sliced peaches, nectarines, and berries), a splash of sparkling water, and a few mint leaves.
      • Pro tip: To feel extra fancy muddle mint leaves to add to the bottom. And garnish with one on top along with a slice of fresh peach or nectarine.
      • Soon everyone will be asking to have what you’re having!
    • Chill and enjoy.

The Bottom Line: Using Your Free Will to Have Your Perfect NYE

Whether you’re on GLP-1s or simply looking to cut back on alcohol, remember that there’s no right or wrong way to enjoy yourself. This is your journey, and you get to define what “celebration” means to you.

So raise a glass (of your favorite new mocktail) to a new year of self-discovery and rediscovering the joy of a good, old-fashioned night in.
