When embarking on a weight loss journey, it’s easy to get caught up in the numbers on the scale. But there are countless other positive changes that can occur along the way, known as non-scale victories. These triumphs often go unnoticed but can have a profound impact on your overall well-being. Here are 15 non-scale victories that you might experience:

  1. Feeling lighter on your feet. Remember that heavy feeling you used to have? It’s gone!
  2. Having more energy to play with your kids. No more running out of steam halfway through a game of tag.
  3. Sleeping better at night. I’m more comfortable and breathe easier. No more tossing and turning, just peaceful slumber.
  4. Feeling more confident in your own skin. It’s amazing how a little weight loss can boost your self-esteem in a million little ways all day. Starting with getting out of the morning shower and being able to easily wrap a bath towel around my body.
  5. Riding a horse. I am now a size that’s allowed to ride any horse. My daughter loves trail rides and it’s so nice to not have to worry about a weight limit for horses.
  6. Being able to move more freely. No more feeling stiff or achy. Reduced weight and reduced inflation makes me feel so much better. In fact, this is the number one thing that made me restart the medicine after trying to wean off when the shortages were so high.
  7. Feeling more accepted. It’s not fair or right…but it’s true. Everything from strangers at the supermarket, waiters, greeters at the gym, librarians and especially other moms at my kids school. The amount of eye contact, friendliness and acceptance once I reached around a size 10 was noticeable and surprising. Now, I felt more confident, but the reception was warmer.
  8. Reducing joint pain. Say goodbye to those achy knees and hips. For me a pleasant surprise was my plantar fascititis went away when I lost weight. It was so painful and I am so glad it is gone.
  9. Feeling healthier overall. Your heart, blood pressure, and blood sugar levels are all improving. I feel better than I did every day. I have more energy to complete standard life tasks and add fun ideas to our calendars.
  10. Having more energy for your hobbies and interests. You can finally pick up hobbies again. I’ve found new favorite hobbies–needlepoint, w
  11. Feeling more comfortable in your own body. No more feeling self-conscious or ashamed.
  12. No Food Noise. I remember being shocked in the first 48 hours of taking a GLP-1 that the ‘food noise’ was gone. I said to my husband, it’s like my brain had this whole background of thoughts running around food all the time that it just doesn’t have now. I feel like I have space to think…And that is definitely a victory.
  13. Setting a positive example for your kids. Advocating for yourself to get medical care for obesity treatment is an amazing example for your kids. Prioritizing your health is an amazing example for them to learn how to prioritize their health. Talk about it with them as its appropriate for their age. You did research and found something to help you be healthy and happy and you should be proud of yourself.
  14. Feeling proud of yourself for achieving your goals. It’s a great feeling to know you’ve accomplished something.
  15. Not having to think, “I’ll be able to do that after I lose weight” and all the disappointment and regrets that comes with those thoughts. The absence of these thoughts is one of the best things about weight loss for me. I don’t have to feel guilty about not signing up for the Turkey Trot or Fun Mile run, or not being able to ride horses and roller coasters with my daughter. These limitations are not part of my life anymore and that is one of my favorite non-scale victories.

Remember, the journey to weight loss is unique to each individual. Celebrate every small victory along the way, whether it’s fitting into a smaller size, being able to play with your kids more easily, or simply feeling better about yourself. Non-scale victories are just as important as the numbers on the scale and can have a lasting impact on your overall well-being.
